Pressure point to be used:
Midsternum-on line with nipples
Part of hands to be used:
Tips of 2 or 3 fingers
Compression distance to go:
½ to 1 inch (1.3 to 2.5
cm)

Compression/ventilation (C/V) ratio to be done:

  • 15C/2V (15 compressions pour 2 ventilations) with a rate of 100C/mn
  • 100C/20V/minute a la machine;
  • use only slight hyperextension of neck;
  • mouth or mask covers nose and mouth;
  • use only small breaths from cheeks
Children (1 through 8 years)
Breathing point:
Mouth
Pressure point:
Slightly below midsternum

Hands:
Heel of one hand
Compression distance:
1 to 1½ inches (2.5 to 3.8 cm)

Compression/ventilation (C/V) ratio

  • 30C/2V (30compressions pour 2 ventilations) with a rate of 100C/mn
  • 100C/20V/minute faite a la machine
Older children and adults
Breathing point:
Mouth
Pressure point:
Lower half of sternum
Hands:
Both
Compression distance:
1½ to 2 inches (4 to 5 cm)
Compression/ventilation ratio:

With one rescuer: 30C/2V (30 compressions pour 2 ventilations) with a rate of 100C/mn

With 2 rescuers: 30C/2V

  • "Continue CPR until there are signs of movement or until emergency medical personnel take over.
  • Check the presence of carotid pulse by putting two finger on the carotid vein site, if none then start CPR by compressing the heart.
  • The rescuer should compress in the center of the chest at the nipple line.
  • The rescuer should compress the chest approximately 1 to 2 inches, using the heel of both hands" for adults.
  • "Lay rescuers should use a 30:2 compression-ventilation ratio for all (infant, child, and adult) victims. Healthcare providers should use a 30:2 compression-ventilation ratio for all 1-rescuer and all adult CPR and should use a 15:2 compression-ventilation ratio for infant and child 2-rescuer CPR."
